Sicilian beekeeping boasts the production of the finest and most typical Sicilian honey, produced by the native Sicilian bee, the Black Bee (Apis mellifera siciliana), also declared a Slow Food Presidium . Known as black for its very dark color, the Sicilian bee stands out for its important characteristics, such as productivity and precocity. Furthermore, the Sicilian bee consumes very little honey and possesses a strong ability to develop even from small colonies.
